Developmental Psychology

The subject of Developmental Psychology relates to the process of studying the human growth in a well defined and developed manner throughout his life period. The nature of the human being is such that he rapidly experiences a great deal of change, growth and then declines in his various life aspects. These changes encompass physical (i.e., learning to crawl in infancy), cognitive (i.e., learning how to apply logic to solve real-life problems), and social development (i.e., learning how to share and cooperate with others).

At the start the Developmental Psychology only focused on the study of  infancy and childhood. The key area of concern was  the development of  baby’s skills through  lots of Baby Games.  The advancement in the field of research is greatly responsible for  introducing  new concepts in this area as developmental psychologists are now producing research and scholarship on life stages all the way up to old age.

As stated earlier, the Developmental psychologists study the way in which the human behavior nourish and change during his life span. They believe that any abnormality in a person has some link with the past in one way or another, hence their major emphasis is on childhood. Special areas of interest include the development of language, social attachments, emotions, thinking and perception.

The meaning of the subject well defined and fully understood is not all that is required, the main aim of educating parents is to reflect this knowledge in the appearing of their children. They should spread this information on events such as Baby Shower Day and help in promoting awareness to bring evolution in the future life.
