Indian Music And Its History

Indian music is considered to be the most oldest or one the old music in the history and it reflects the traditional values of the India mean India and Pakistan. The Indian music history is considered to be as old as the history of the south Asia and India itself. According to the Indian music was first introduced by Sage Narada. He introduces the laws of music in the India and Tumburu is considered to be the first singer ever who uses music art for singing. The term for music ‘Sangeet’ that includes vocal singing and instrumental music and dance. Dates back to the prehistoric times the music were written by some learned men and music were played in the royal courts and temples of India.

The instrumental music becomes famous in the era between 500 and 1500 BC. While the music called Marga Sangeet get popularity between 200 and 500 BC. While Indian Music (Latest Indian Songs) has two very important elements called the ‘Raag’ and ‘Taal’. Raag is the melodic modes and Taal implies the rhythm of the music. The period from 200 BC and 300 AD is the period when music and dances become so prominent. Chhalikya and Hallisaka gained lots of popularity during this period. Chhalikya is an ancient mode of music by Ghandarva while Hallisaka is the type of dance.

The period from 300 AD to 600 AD was the period of great musical works of Kalidasa. Now come the period of the Great Mughal Empire. The period from 600 AD to 1700 AD was heavily influenced northern music and the Indian culture was very much heavily influenced by Arabic and Persian cultures which lead to the creation of new music which is now known as Hindustani music. Hindustani music is now very much rich in all types of music like Hindi songs music, Indian Punjabi Songs, Tamil songs, Telugu songs but the Carnatic Music is never influenced till now by any invader.
