As you know the
people of Punjab are known well for their
enthusiasm and zest of life. They don’t care about any restrictions or stops
when it comes to the celebrations and if it is the occasion to celebrate a
wedding. They make their wedding a riot of colors and celebrations with their
different colorful events. When the formal announcement is made that the girls
and the boy are to wed each other then a roka ceremony is held after the date
is finalized for the wedding. In the roka ceremony the couple is engaged to
each other. This event and other following events are held with great joy and
entertainment full ways.
The
marriage celebrations normally starts with the tikka ceremony which was
conducted a week before the marriage day. The tikka material and gifts from the
girl’s family visits the boy family in this event. The dances are carried out
like those of the Indian video songs
of the Indian movies and the event is celebrated with great joy. The girls and
boys family exchanges gifts and the exchange of rings between boy and the girl.
The people present there bless the couple for the happy life ahead. The tikka
is applied on the forehead of the boy by the girl’s father.
The next
and most fun part of the wedding ceremony is the Sangeet event. This event is performed
by singing and dancing. This event is both hosted by the girl’s and the boy’s
families. The old ladies of the girl’s family sing traditional songs or the Indian Punjabi songs and try to tease the
boy. And in the same way when the girl’s family is hosted by the boy’s family
then they give the best fit replies to tease the girl’s family. In such events
live bands and DJ’s are invited to handle the background music. Then there come
Mehendi, henna is applied to bride palm and feet. Then there comes the Baraat
procession to bring the bride to her new home. Then there are some events
carried out after the wedding ceremony.
